First Lines, First Thoughts is a weekly meme where you share the first line of the books you’re reading and your thoughts about it. Alternatively, you can also use the books you’ve read during the week.
What am I reading this week?
It’s the dream I always have: I’m on a plane, high above the clouds. The plane starts to descend, and I have this sudden panic because I just know that I’m on the wrong plane, am traveling to the wrong place.
Just One Year, Gayle Forman
For a book about travel and discovery, this first line is very appropiate. It is also great that it doesn’t spoil the first book, Just One Year(which I’m not going to do either). That way of thinking also describes our main character perfecly. It’s a dream, yes, but that dream reflects the main character’s problems and desires, so it’s significant for the story. For people who have read the first book, it makes you wonder where that person is, and what s/he is looking for. Why is s/he in the wrong place? Where does s/he need/want to go? And also, when is this happening compared to the first book?
What are you reading? Can you remember the first line? What is it? Does it make the book justice?
