Waiting on Wednesday: When It’s Real

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme created by Breaking the Spine that spotlights those upcoming releases we’re anticipating

This week’s book is *drum roll*:

When It’s Real by Erin Watt
May 30th – Goodreads

I discovered Erin Watt late last year with Paper Princess, thanks to a BR, and even though I was new to the new adult genre, I devoured it. I read Broken Prince immediately after, and I knew Erin Watt’s books were a hit with me, so I was very excited when I discovered this one.

When It’s Real, as opposed to The Royals, it’s a stand-alone, so no waiting for sequels. It also reminds me of the old Disney Channel movies, except in book for and new adult version. I am a sucker when one of the characters is famous and falls in love or starts a relationship with someone who is not, and it’s usually a funny dynamic, but also very real and emotional, so I’m prepared for this!

Meet Oakley Ford-teen celebrity, renowned pop star, child of famous movie stars, hottie with millions of fangirls… and restless troublemaker. On the surface he has it all, but with his home life disintegrating, his music well suddenly running dry, and the tabloids having a field day over his outrageous exploits, Oakley’s team decides it’s time for an intervention. The result: an image overhaul, complete with a fake girlfriend meant to show the world he’s settled down.

Enter seventeen-year-old Vaughn Bennett-devoted sister, part-time waitress, the definition of “normal.” Under ordinary circumstances she’d never have taken this gig, but with her family strapped for cash, she doesn’t have much of a choice. And for the money Oakley’s team is paying her, she figures she can put up with outlandish Hollywood parties and a team of publicists watching her every move. So what if she thinks Oakley’s a shallow, self-centered jerk? It’s not like they’re going to fall for each other in real life…right?

What about you? What are you looking forward to reading? Have you heard about this book? Have you read The Royals?
